Little Andaman Lighthouse – Excellent Andamans

Little Andaman Lighthouse – A Beacon of History

Why This Lighthouse Belongs on Your Bucket List

Little Andaman Lighthouse is one of the island’s most enchanting hidden gems—offering sweeping views, rich maritime history, and a serene escape far from the crowds.

Breathtaking Vistas

Perched at elevation, the lighthouse delivers panoramic views over turquoise waters, dense forests, and verdant coastline. Watching the sunrise or sunset from here is a truly unforgettable experience.

A Touch of History

Constructed during the British era, this lighthouse provides a glimpse into Little Andaman’s maritime past and the importance of navigational aids in these waters.

Seek Out Adventure

Unlike those crowded tourist spots, the lighthouse offers a peaceful, offbeat adventure—ideal for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone looking to explore the road less traveled.

Did You Know?
The lighthouse is just a short distance from Whisper Wave Waterfall and Butler Bay Beach—perfect for expanding your itinerary with nearby sights.

Location & Legends

Located at the southern tip of Little Andaman Island, this landmark guides ships navigating the challenging waters of the Bay of Bengal. Standing between 46 m to 48 m tall, it was commissioned in 1986 and stands as the second tallest lighthouse in Asia.

Its distinct black-and-white horizontal stripes, two observation galleries, and unique design—without a traditional lantern—make it the only structure of its kind in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Visitor Experience

Visitors can ascend the 200 spiral steps to reach the upper gallery, where dazzling views of rainforest, coastline, and sea await. This lighthouse is beloved by both locals and tourists—a place that truly captures the imagination.

How to Reach the Lighthouse

Begin from Port Blair and embark on a 6–8 hour ferry ride to Hut Bay on Little Andaman. From there, a scenic cab or auto-rickshaw ride through lush terrain of 30 minutes to 1 hour brings you to the lighthouse.

Visitor Tips

Best Time to Visit: November to April—dry season offers clear skies and calm seas.

What to Remember: Check weather forecasts and ferry schedules in advance. Avoid monsoon months (May–October) as travel becomes difficult and visibility lowers.

Photography: Early mornings and late afternoons offer the best light and fewer crowds—perfect for capturing the beauty.
