A Dark Chapter of India’s Freedom Struggle

The Cellular Jail, also called Kala Pani Jail, was built by the British to isolate and punish Indian revolutionaries. Construction began in 1896 and was completed in 1906.

Many notable freedom fighters, including Veer Savarkar and Batukeshwar Dutt, were imprisoned here. They endured forced labor, starvation, and torture, yet resistance never stopped.

Today, Port Blair Airport carries his name in honor of his sacrifice.
