Located around 1300 km from the Indian mainland, the Andaman Islands are accessible by air and sea. Port Blair, the capital city, is the only entry point and is well-connected to major cities like Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, and more.
Flying is the quickest and most convenient way to reach Andaman. The Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ) in Port Blair serves regular flights from:
Airlines: Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Vistara, Akasa Air
Ships operated by the Indian Government connect Port Blair with Chennai, Kolkata, and Visakhapatnam. The journey takes 60–70 hours and is ideal for travelers with time to spare and a love for the sea.
Accommodation: Bunk, Cabin, Deluxe Class
Book flights at least 6–8 weeks in advance for the best prices. Ship tickets are released 2–3 weeks prior to departure and sell out quickly. Flight operations are restricted to daylight hours (7 AM to 3 PM).
Airlines such as Air India, IndiGo, and Vistara provide daily services. Akasa Air also operates seasonal flights. Early morning bookings are usually more affordable and reliable.
Choose window seats for stunning aerial views of the islands as you land in Port Blair.
Indian citizens don’t require permits to visit most areas, but certain tribal zones are restricted. Foreign nationals must carry valid passports and visas. Health screening may apply for ship passengers.
